Pensacola Business Radio: Powerful Women Of the Gulf Coast Series-Guest Quint Studer and Hosted by Kolleen Chesley

2016-12-20-12-55-06

Quint Studer is a businessman, a visionary, an entrepreneur, a mentor to many, and extremely dedicated to his community. He has given his life to designing the building blocks for people and organizations that guide them to achieving and sustaining high performance.

Quint Studer is the founder of Studer Group®, a recipient of the 2010 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Studer Group is an outcomes firm that implements Evidence-Based LeadershipSM systems and practices to help organizations achieve, sustain, and accelerate in service, quality, finance, people, and growth.  For six consecutive years – the last three being in the top 10 – Studer Group has been named one of the Best Small and Medium Workplaces in the United States by Great Place to Work®.  Quint retired from Studer Group in March of 2016 to become a full-time community volunteer to undertake the development, training, and education of the Pensacola Metro Community.

Inc. magazine named Studer its Master of Business, making him the only healthcare leader to have ever won this prestigious award. A consummate teacher and student, Quint was part of the 21st Healthcare Leadership Curriculum Task Force at Harvard Business School. Quint has served as a Board Member at the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) and the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). Quint has also served as a Think Tank Panelist in Washington D.C., as Faculty in Residence at George Washington University, and a Guest Professor at Cornell University. In 2014, Quint was recognized as one of the 40 smartest people in health care by Becker’s Magazine. In September of 2014, Quint was the first ever recipient of Modern Healthcare’s Healthcare Marketing Visionary Award.  He also currently serves on the Board of Sacred Heart Health System.

Studer has written and contributed to a number of books including his newest Healing Physician Burnout, released in September 2015.  His first book, Hardwiring Excellence, a Business Week bestseller, is one of the most read leadership books written for healthcare, with more than 700,000 copies in circulation today. Results that Last, written for non-healthcare, hit the Wall Street Journal’s bestseller list of business books.  Some of his other books include 101 Answers to Questions Leaders Ask, offering practical solutions to healthcare leaders; Straight A Leadership, helping organizations execute well in this changing external environment; and A Culture of High Performance, providing leadership skills to perform at a higher level—continuously.  One of his most popular books, The Great Employee Handbook, provides actions employees can take to better their work and life. Just prior to leaving Studer Group Quint released Maximize Performance for education leaders and teachers, to help them create a culture of educational excellence.

Quint and his wife Rishy moved to Pensacola in 1996 and have not been afraid to invest in its future.  They both have been given many awards through their years here in Pensacola.  Of all the awards, one of their most meaningful is the “Ethics Award” by the Gulf Breeze Rotary and the Pensacola Rotary.  Quint was awarded the Pensacola Area Commitment to Excellence (PACE) Award for Community Leader in 2005/2006 for having a ‘true spirit of service.’

They are co-owners of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos minor league baseball team based here in Pensacola, Florida. The team plays in the Southern League and are the Class Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds Major League Baseball team. On January 19, 2015, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos announced that two-time Masters Champion Bubba Watson joined Quint and Rishy as co-owner of the team.  With this partnership, Bubba and the Studers hope to create even more memorable experiences for Wahoos fans, cultivate a great place for Wahoos employees to work and, with Bubba’s leadership, gain a more national and international awareness for the Blue Wahoos and the City of Pensacola, Florida.

Quint and Rishy founded the Studer Community Institute in February 2014, a non-profit organization that works with small businesses and sponsors research and development of benchmarks to help communities evaluate and understand the health of local economy, government, and quality of life. The Institute produces fact-based analysis of issues that need to be addressed to move forward.  The two main initiatives Studer Community Institute focus on improving early childhood brain development by creating America’s First Early Learning City, and training small businesses and entrepreneurs in universally recognized best practices and leadership development tools to help grow their business. Quint says he has a human responsibility to act and to do so with a sense of urgency. Quint will always connect his actions back to purpose.

Resources – Informative and Trusted

Finding solid resources on line isn’t as easy as it might seem.

There is a LOT of garbage and mis-information floating around on the internet.  A lot. I spend a ton of time reading and researching articles and sources before I ever hit the share button.

If you follow me regularly, you’ll start to see some of my favorite peeps popping up again and again. Does this mean that I agree with everything they post?  No.  What it means, is that I’m pretty close to being on board with most of their content because clearly they are doing their research and hitting the mark with great frequency.

Here is what you need to know before you read anything further.  Generally speaking, I’m a gal who is more interested in RESULTS than I am credentials.  Hard science is not always necessary for me.  I’ve gotten cynical about “research” and “studies” because when I dig, I frequently end up discover that the are financed by the people who most benefit from their results.  Just about every notable agriculture school in the US is funded in some way, shape or form by the agribusinesses who poison us most.  None wants to bite the hand the feeds them.  It’s reality, plain and simple.

We are your local insurance and financial planning firm assisting in creating financial & protection plans catered to meet your specific needs.

Our core sectors of focus are financial security, medicare, executive benefits, business succession strategies, retirement, leaving a legacy, estate preservation, social security options, lifetime income, and spousal survivor income.

Since our inception, AHF has been totally focused on building a strategic, quality insurance and financial planning firm.

American Heritage Financial was founded and based around two ideas. First, create a company that would be a career opportunity for Financial Professionals by having quality insurance companies and products available for their clients. Secondly, we work for our clients not the insurance companies. We base our decisions for products off of the conversations we have with each individual client we represent. We believe there is not a “one size fits all” with insurance products. You have to look at each client’s situation as a whole and base your financial strategy consistent with the client’s way of thinking, not your own.

AHF focuses on creating a financial strategy to get you to your retirement or through it without the worry of unexpected bills, running out of retirement income, or becoming a burden to your heirs. It has been said that a community’s vitality can be measured in part by the voluntary contributions of it’s leaders. The vision of Leadership Pensacola is a community filled with leaders who are well informed, committed and have the desire to inspire positive change in the Pensacola area.

 Community Action Program Pensacola

What is Community Action?Fifty years ago, under the leadership of President Lyndon B. Johnson, the U.S. Congress enacted the bill known as the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 in an effort that began under the watch of President John F. Kennedy before his assassination. Johnson took up and expanded these efforts to eradicate poverty, calling the move an unconditional war. In his State of the Union Address in 1964, Johnson declared,

“It will not be a short or easy struggle, no single weapon or strategy will suffice, but we shall not rest until that war is won.”

The variety of initiatives introduced as a result of the act included Head Start, Job Corps, Work-Study programs, Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA), and Neighborhood Youth Corps. One of the bill’s more radical components was the introduction of Community Action Agencies, as they prescribed direct involvement from individuals in low-income communities to address the needs of the poor. This action was a departure from how social reform programs were structured in the past.

Like its sister agencies across the state and nation, the Community Action Program Committee, Inc. (CAPC) in Pensacola, Florida, was born out of this concept. Although much has changed in the half century since Johnson’s declaration of the war on poverty, CAPC continues to serve the needs of individuals and families who are struggling and working to achieve self-sufficiency.

We will carry on CAPC’s legacy of service to the community by forging valuable connections to further our mission. Connections with other organizations in Northwest Florida are key to identifying individuals with unmet needs and to directing them to the best possible solutions. Strengthening connections within the agency is important as well. Working together, the CAPC staff can maximize each program’s effectiveness and efficiency in order to help those we serve.

CAPC has produced positive outcomes for many, but the fight must continue. And in the words of President Johnson, “we shall not rest.”

Linda Moultrie

Board Chair

About Us

Experience, Technical Knowledge, Professionalism, & Safety

Over the last seven years our company, Coastal ICF, has completed over 80 ICF wall system projects and performed close to 200 concrete wall pours in the Pensacola area. These projects encompass a wide variety of building types, shapes and sizes, each having unique characteristics that represent the many different uses of ICF forms.

We have experience building basements, safe-rooms, and ICF’s built on a wide variety of foundation types which include slab on grade, monolithic, off-grade slabs or “stem-wall”, and elevated slabs on pilings.

We are able to use innovative engineering techniques to push beyond the limitations of wood frame, steel, and concrete block construction.

We began operations building custom ICF homes from the ground up or “turn-key”, but now we specialize in building ICF walls or the entire envelope or “shell” (foundation, ICF walls, and framing). This approach streamlines the construction process by using a single professional subcontractor to complete the three critical structural phases of construction and provides more effective coordination between owners, architects, engineers, builders, subcontractors, and construction officials thus reducing construction time and minimizing potential problems. Time saved is measured in dollars to the customer.

Our mission is to provide the customer with the highest quality service possible for the best value. Our crews are experienced, professional, punctual, and friendly. We promise to keep your jobsite clean and provide you with quality work. Please do not hire an inexperienced ICF installer! After the concrete is poured and hardened mistakes are very expensive to correct.  You will not save money in the long run. Also, be aware of out of town subs who typically have poor knowledge of our local codes and insurance requirements.

Our president, Douglas Herrick, is a State Certified Building Contractor with over 10 years experience in the construction industry. He holds an Architecture degree from the University of Colorado and sits on the board of directors of the Northwest Florida Home Builders Association. He is also a member in good standing of the ICFA (Insulating Concrete Form Association) and the ACI (American Concrete Institute). Doug developed his philosophy for hard work, professionalism, and attention to detail while serving as a Naval Aviator with the United States Navy. After his tour was up, Doug apprenticed with a commercial builder, and after obtaining his builder’s license, started his own construction business in 1997.

It is our personal commitment to provide a safe work environment. Not only does this ensure the safety of our workers, it ensures continued productivity, and ultimately protects the consumer.

Please contact us as soon as possible to discuss the option of using Coastal ICF to help you build your new home or office out of ICF. I will review your plans and make an assessment of adaptability to our system and the potential construction costs. I look forward to your call.

Amy Miller/Port Of Pensacola
Port Director

An Ohio native, Amy holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. Following a successful career in print journalism, she entered the seaport industry in 1993 as Communications Director for the Port of South Louisiana. In 1997, she was named Trade Development Manager at the Port of Gulfport, Mississippi.

She relocated to Florida in 2002 when she became Port of Pensacola’s Manager of Business & Trade Development and, through the years, she absorbed additional duties in the areas of financial management and human resources. In November 2013, Mayor Ashton Hayward appointed her to the position of port director, making her the first women to lead Pensacola’s port enterprise. She is the only female port director in Florida and in the Gulf of Mexico region and is one of less than a dozen female port directors in the U.S.

Stacey Kostevicki / Gulf Coast Kids House
Executive Director

I graduated from Florida State University with a BA and earned my MBA at the University of West Florida. My most recent job before accepting the Executive Director position at GCKH was at Studer Group.  My heart has always been with not-for-profit organizations though and I have a decade of experience in this area.  I have been with GCKH since December 2010. I serve as the President of the Florida Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers, a statewide membership organization representing all of the children’s advocacy centers in Florida. I also serve on the Escambia County Healthy Start Coalition Board and am a proud Cordova Rotarian and United Way of Escambia County volunteer.
