Blues Angel Music (BAM) was founded in August of 1997 by retired Navy Captain and fighter pilot Jim DeStafney. He and his wife Nan, a retired Navy forensics officer, have grown the store from its one-man, 1,000 square foot beginnings into a 15,000 square foot, full-line music store, complete with a fully-staffed school of music.
Serving the Pensacola area, Blues Angel Music provides an impressive selection of new, used, and vintage gear for the beginner and the professional musician alike. In addition to our selection of new, used, and vintage gear, and Blues Angel Music’s School of Music, BAM has become Pensacola’s best choice for band and orchestra instrument sales and rentals.
We have been named a NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Top 100 Dealer 5 years running and we’ve also been voted Best of the Bay. These awards are due to our friendly staff of experts who are eager to provide information and advice relating to any of the instruments and accessories we offer. It is the goal of every crew member at Blues Angel Music to be the Gulf Coast’s “go-to” spot for aspiring musicians as well as gigging professionals.
The Blues Angel Music Foundation aims to make a positive impact on the Greater Pensacola Area through the promotion of music education, instruction, and therapy throughout the lifespan of any and every individual it touches. We will seek out and support organizations, scholarships, and other efforts to engage the mind and body through music. Your donations are hard at work in our community!

Bob Pitts / Willow Bend Mortgage
Willow Bend Mortgage was founded in North Dallas by Bill Shaddock in December 1993. It was formed as a small brokerage shop built on servant leadership principles. Over the next 20 years, the leadership, which is still in place today, has organically grown Willow Bend Mortgage into a full scale mortgage banking operation with offices now across Texas in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, McAllen, and Corpus Christi metroplexes as well as across the state of Alabama. The company is headquartered in Plano, Texas and annually generates $500+ million of single family and reverse mortgages.
Willow Bend Mortgage loan officers pride themselves on building relationships with their clients by putting their clients’ interests first and navigating them through today’s over-regulated mortgage environment with a product mix, expertise, and operations staff that is second to none.
A reverse mortgage is a loan available to homeowners who are 62 years or older that enables them to convert part of their equity in their home into tax-free cash! FHA, who insures the reverse mortgage, for the benefit of the borrower, terms this a “Home Equity Conversion Mortgage” (HECM).
The product was conceived as a means to help retirees improve their quality of life utilizing the accumulated equity in their homes. The “tax free” proceeds may be used to cover living expenses, pay for long term health care, pay off their existing mortgage and even to take that long awaited vacation. The attractive part of the HECM is that there are no restrictions on how the proceeds can be used…IT IS YOURS TO DO WHAT EVER YOU WANT!
The loan is called a reverse mortgage because the traditional mortgage everyone is used to has a payback stream that is in reverse. Instead of making payments to a lender, as with the traditional mortgage, the borrower makes no payments, with a HECM and the lender makes payments to the borrower. The HECM also has many varied options the borrower can take advantage of.
Borrowers want to sell:
Borrowers want to sell and purchase a new home using a HECM for home purchase:
One borrower passes away:
Both borrowers pass away:
The heirs may pay the balance due on the reverse mortgage, refinance the property into their own name, or sell the home, for fair-market value, and use the proceeds to pay off the reverse mortgage. Any remaining equity after the reverse mortgage is repaid is theirs to keep.

Carrie Fonder / University of West Florida, Department of Art
Carrie Fonder currently teaches art and art appreciation at the University of West Florida. Before coming to UWF in 2015, she taught at several institutions in the greater Detroit Metro Area, including the College for Creative Studies, and was the director of the Summer Art Studio at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay.
The Before I Die Wall is a participatory public art project created by New Orleans artist Candy Chang: http://candychang.com/work/before-i-die-in-nola/
BEFORE I DIE IS A PARTICIPATORY PUBLIC ART PROJECT that invites people to contemplate death, reflect on life, and share their personal aspirations in public. After losing someone she loved, Chang channeled her grief and depression into this project on an abandoned house in her New Orleans neighborhood to restore perspective and find consolation with her neighbors. She covered the crumbling house with chalkboard paint and stenciled it with the prompt, “Before I die I want to _____.” The wall quickly filled up with responses, from the poetic to the profound: Before I die I want to… see my daughter graduate, abandon all insecurities, get my wife back, eat all the candy and sushi in the world, be a Youtube sensation, straddle the International Date Line, tell my mother I love her, be completely myself.
The wall gained global attention and many people have contacted Chang about creating a wall in their own community. Chang created a project sitewith step-by-step resources and thanks to passionate people around the world, over 1,000 Before I Die walls have now been created in over 70 countries, including Iraq, China, Brazil, Kazakhstan, and South Africa. Revealing the community’s longings, anxieties, joys, and struggles, the project explores how public space can cultivate self-examination and empathy among neighbors and compassionately prepare us for death and grief. It has also inspired dozens of remixes that offer new ways to engage with the people around us. The Before I Die book is a celebration of these walls and the stories behind them. See much more on the project site and follow the latest Before I Die walls and responses on Twitter,Instagram, and Facebook.
