Dr. Karen Rasmussen is the Chief Academic Strategist of the Innovation Institute and Assistant Provost at the University of West Florida. She leads initiatives related to distance learning, academic policy and infrastructure. Dr. Rasmussen leads MyCareerShines, the state of Florida career and readiness tool. As part of the Complete Florida initiative, Dr. Rasmussen works with academic affairs colleagues across the State of Florida to build systems for program completion and data integration. She has worked on the implementation of mobile learning program delivery in the areas of Performance Technology and Technology Systems Support. Dr. Rasmussen holds the rank of professor, teaching courses in Instructional Systems, Curriculum, Performance Technology, and Instructional Technology. Dr. Rasmussen has co-authored a text on web-based instruction and conducts research on the variables affecting learning in distance environments and persistence and success in program completion. Dr. Rasmussen has served as Department Chair and Associate Dean.

Dr. Eman El-Sheikh is Director of the UWF Center for Cybersecurity, Associate Dean of the College of Science and Engineering, and Professor of Computer Science. The UWF Center for Cybersecurity is the regional hub for cybersecurity education and research, including multidisciplinary programs and certificates, research opportunities, outreach activities, and industry partnerships. Dr. El-Sheikh teaches and conducts research related to Artificial Intelligence in Cybersecurity. She enjoys giving presentations related to cybersecurity education and workforce development and mentoring students in research projects.

Andrea Krieger has served as the President/CEO of United Way of Escambia County since June of 2011.  Under her leadership, United Way has grown support of the local community to create a $3 to 1 return on investment.  In the recently completed 2014-2015 fiscal year, $3.14M in donor gifts, sponsorship and grants were leveraged through volunteer efforts and in-kind support to create an $11.6M impact on the local community.

Andrea has a strong commitment to making a difference in the lives of others and was taught early the value of service by her father who was a naval officer and aviator for 24 years.  She is the President for the Rotary Club of Pensacola and a Paul Harris Fellow.  Additionally, she is the Program Chair for Rotary District 6940’s RYLA program.  Andrea also serves on the Board of Central Credit Union and on the West Florida Hospital Women’s Advisory Board.  She is a 2003 LeaP, 2006 Leadership Okaloosa and 2013 LeadersEdge graduate.  Prior to joining United Way of Escambia County, Andrea led the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida through a successful $5M expansion of service to a new 26-bedroom Ronald McDonald House.  In part because of this role and her current position, Andrea has been named one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Pensacola, was named the Best Non-Profit Executive Director/CEO as part of the Pensacola News Journal’s Best of the Bay Awards and was recently recognized as a Champion of Service by Volunteer Florida. She is honored and humbled by her ability to serve our community as the President of our local United Way.

Kelly Massey and Gerry Goldstein / SBDC

Mr. Gerry Goldstein

My educational background includes a BSBA in Finance from the University of Florida and an MBA from the University of West Florida.  I spent more than ten years on Wall Street in various roles within the investment banking community.  In my early years, I was a short-term money trader specializing in BA’s, CD’s, Treasury Bills, and I also specialized in using the Euro Dollar futures market to hedge cash positions. I collaborated with team members to build two government-trading operations.  My last position was with Merrill Lynch at its headquarters in New York on the institutional sales desk, specializing in short term money instruments.

Returning to Pensacola in the early 80’s, I started multiple businesses, including one of the largest printing businesses in the southeast, which supplied print to the US Government Printing Office. During this same time, I designed an online system to deliver printing contracts from the US Government and State agencies to printers throughout the US.  Currently, I own two companies, Salomon-Goldstein Properties LLC, which specializes in commercial real estate brokerage and Goldstein Properties which owns and manages commercial buildings. I have been active in promoting economic development in both Santa Rosa and Escambia counties for more than ten years and sit on multiple boards, including Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Board of Governors at Pensacola State College, Santa Rosa Medical Center, and Rebuild Northwest Florida. 

Currently, I am an adjunct professor in the MBA department at the University of West Florida as well as program coordinator for the Florida Vet Training Program sponsored by Florida Small Business Development Center state office.

Kelly Massey joined The Florida SBDC at the University of West Florida in 2014.  As Regional Director, Massey oversees the operations of SBDC offices located in Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, and Panama City serving ten counties in the Florida panhandle.  He was previously the Center Director for the Henderson State University – SBDC located in Arkansas.  He was employed there for six years.   

In 2012, he was awarded the National Small Business Administration Counselor of the Year for SBDCs at National Small Business Week in Washington, DC.  He is a Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP), a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and a Certified Business Advisor (CBA).     

Massey has a Master’s degree in Business Administration.  His prior twelve years of experience were in the human resources management field working for large manufacturing companies such as Georgia-Pacific, International Paper Company, and Stant Manufacturing, Inc.

Massey serves on the Greater Pensacola Chamber Board, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Board, and on the Pensacola Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Group.

Christina Doss is the managing director for Saltmarsh Financial Advisors, LLC, an affiliate of Saltmarsh, Cleaveland & Gund. She works directly with clients on wealth management and financial planning needs while also playing a significant role in the firm’s strategic planning and business development efforts. She has more than 22 years of experience in financial services.

Prior to joining Saltmarsh, Christina rose through the ranks with Charles Schwab as a broker, manager and sales director, taking on key leadership roles in advice development and financial planning. She also served as the enterprise leader and senior director for Schwab’s west coast private client division where she led a team of over 100 portfolio managers and was responsible for $8 billion in client assets.

She subsequently moved to SunTrust Bank as the regional managing director for North Florida’s private wealth management division and was appointed as city president for Pensacola. She served in this role until 2013, when she joined Saltmarsh Financial Advisors, a fee-only advisory firm which focuses on Nobel Prize recognized research to provide conflict-free advice to their clients.

Christina holds a B.S. degree in management from Golden Gate University and an AAMS® designation from the College for Financial Planning.  This past year, Christina was selected to participate in Leadership Florida’s thirty-fourth class. The ten-month program connects a group of 55 diverse community leaders from across the state of Florida to facilitate issues-oriented education and leadership discussions on challenges and opportunities critical to Florida.

She is also a graduate of the Carter Center Leadership Forum Executive Learning Program in Atlanta and Leadership Jacksonville-New Leadership Summit Executive Program.  She is active in Pensacola and the NWFL community having currently or previously served on the boards of Florida’s Great Northwest, Covenant Hospice, Pensacola Symphony and Pensacola Opera.

Dr. Sherry Hartnett

A marketing and leadership consultant, professor, and executive mentor, Dr. Sherry Hartnett finds personal satisfaction in assisting individuals, teams, and organizations in achieving solutions that benefit both the employee and the organization. Dr. Hartnett was born in Alexandria, VA and raised in the Washington, DC area. As a senior-level executive for more than 20 years, Dr. Hartnett has led and coached teams in various not-for-profit and for-profit industries. Dr. Hartnett has extensive professional experience in the marketing field. Before her academic and consulting work, she was Vice President, Chief Marketing & Development Officer at Baptist Health Care, a highly regarded Northwest Florida healthcare system that was recognized as a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award winner and as one of FORTUNE Magazine’s 100 Best Places to Work. Before that, she was a marketing executive at Gannett Co., Inc., one of the world’s largest media companies; The Baltimore Sun; and Faulkner Advertising Associates, a national advertising agency based in Baltimore, MD.  

With her marketing teams, Dr. Hartnett has won more than 100 local, regional, national, and international marketing and advertising awards. She received the National Distinguished Marketing Achievement Award, one of the highest honors bestowed by the Newspaper Association of America, and has received numerous awards and recognitions for excellence in innovation and marketing leadership.

Wanting to make a difference in the lives of the next generation, Dr. Hartnett joined academia as a full-time faculty member to help prepare students for successful careers and lives. She is a professor at the University of West Florida (UWF) and has developed and taught the following undergraduate and graduate level courses: Social Media Marketing, Internet Marketing Principles, Leadership and Management Practices, Theories of Leadership, Introduction to Business, and Professional Development. She also developed and now directs an innovative high-impact experiential learning Executive Mentor Program that provides professional development mentoring to graduate and undergraduate students. Dr. Hartnett also created, and is Chairwoman of, the highly successful annual Women in Leadership Conference at UWF.

An active leader in Pensacola’s business, civic and charitable communities, Dr. Hartnett has served on numerous Boards of Directors including Junior Achievement of Northwest Florida and the Rotary Club of Pensacola. Nationally, she is a member of the American Hospital Association’s Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development and the American Marketing Association.

Julie Sheppard joined the staff of IHMC as General Counsel and Special Assistant to the Director in March of 2004. She handles the legal issues, human resource and immigration and educational outreach programs for the Institute. Ms. Sheppard has worked primarily in the higher education environment serving in roles including General Counsel at the University of West Florida, Associate General Counsel at the University of North Florida, and as Labor and Employment Counsel to the former Florida Board of Regents. Julie began her legal career in private practice with the Maine law firm of Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer and Nelson after clerking for Justice Robert C. Cauchon of the Massachusetts Trial courts and she has also served as an Administrative Hearings Officer for the Florida Department of Labor and Employment Security.  A native of a small coastal town in New England, she earned her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts and her B.A. from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.  Julie is admitted to practice law in Maine, Massachusetts and Florida and is Florida Board Certified in Education Law. She is involved in a number of community organizations and has served as President of IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area and is a graduate of Leadership Florida Class XXV. Julie lives in Pensacola with her husband Phillip Turner and her two teenage daughters Marina and Delaney.

Rick Harper’s career as an economist began in 1979 at the Research Triangle Institute in North Carolina. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Duke University in 1989 and joined the UWF faculty that same year.

Rick directs UWF’s Center for Research and Economic Opportunity (CREO), which oversees the UWF Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, the Florida Small Business Development Center Network, the UWF Office of Economic Development and Engagement, and the Haas Center for Business Research and Economic Development.  During 2013 and 2014, he was on loan to the Florida Senate where he served as Senior Policy Advisor on Economic Affairs under President Don Gaetz. In 2015 he was appointed as UWF’s Associate Vice President for Research and Economic Opportunity, and he also serves as Senior Research Fellow of the Studer Community Institute.

Peter Ralston is an Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Logistics Management at the University of West Florida.  Peter graduated with his Ph.D. in supply chain management from Iowa State University in 2014.  Before earning his Ph.D., Peter spent a number of years in industry.  Specifically he worked as a customer liaison for a large beauty and fragrance manufacturer.  After that, he spent three years running a distribution center in Chicago, IL for a large office products wholesaler.  

Scott Keller is the John C. Pace Distinguished Business Professor and Professor of Supply Chain Logistics Management at the University of West Florida.   He received his Ph.D. in Logistics and Marketing from the University of Arkansas and has been on the logistics faculty at Penn State and Michigan State.  Dr. Keller began the supply chain logistics management program at UWF 11 years ago that focuses on linking students with industry professionals to launch successful careers in supply chain logistics management.  UWF’s formally launched a standalone BSBA in Supply Chain Logistics this past fall.  Dr. Keller coaches UWF student logistics teams that have consistently rank at the highest level in national competitions against the country’s top logistics programs; placing 1st and 2nd multiple times.  Dr. Keller’s research interests include personnel performance and the development of a customer oriented culture within logistics operations.  Along with his brother, Dr. Keller co-authored the book, The Definitive Guide to Warehousing.  He has been ranked among the top 3% of all time published researchers in the leading logistics journals. He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Business Logistics.  His managerial experience is in motor carrier operations, large scale public and contract warehousing in Memphis, and ocean freight marine terminal operations in Long Beach, California.

Robin is objectively persuasive, seriously humorous, and authentically diverse, comfortably connecting with diverse crowds at all corporate and community levels.  Her audiences feel that she is interested and interesting and appreciates her passion and expertise.  Whether its leadership, collaboration, strategy, coalition-building, or myriad communtiy issues (economic development, parity, diversity), Robin ensures the subject matter is well thought out, inclusive and open.
