Pensacola Business Radio: Spotlight Episode-FRED LEVIN

Fred Levin gifts $550,000 to UWF to establish new institute
Pensacola, Fla. – April 17, 2017 Attorney and community advocate Fred Levin is investing $550,000 in the University of West Florida to establish the Reubin O’D. Askew Institute for Multidisciplinary Studies. The gift will also help the University purchase land to house the Institute.
The Institute will substantially further UWF’s leadership in STEAM initiatives – combined applications of science, technology, engineering, art and math. Activities within the Institute will include increased visibility of potential STEAM initiatives, partnerships with area schools and businesses, internships and research opportunities.
“This gift can be a game-changer for UWF,” said UWF President Martha Saunders. “It allows us to build on the existing strengths of the University to create one-of-a-kind approaches to teaching and learning. I am grateful for the trust Mr. Levin has placed in us.”
In addition, the Institute has the flexibility of supporting numerous opportunities for integrating humanities and social science disciplines toward solving community problems. It will draw on existing strengths of the University to inspire relevant research.
Reubin O’D. Askew was an American politician who served as the 37th governor of the state of Florida from 1971 to 1979. In 1974, he became the first governor in Florida history to be elected to a second consecutive four-year term. During his two terms as governor, Askew was primarily involved in tax reform, especially in the increase of homestead exemption and passage of the “Sunshine Amendment,” which called for full financial disclosure by public officials and candidates. In 1955, David Levin, Fred’s deceased older brother, and Askew founded the law firm of Levin & Askew. In 1961, Fred Levin joined the firm.
“Governor Askew, besides being a friend and a law partner, was one of those rare persons who lived the principles he spoke,” said Levin. “He would not abide a curse word on a tennis court, nor would he abide a false statement in a court of law. As Governor, his only guideline was to ask whether it was good for the people of Florida. If it was not the right thing to do, he would not do it, regardless the political fallout. There is a reason why he was the first Governor in modern Florida history to be re-elected for a second term. Hopefully, the students and faculty who come to know Governor Askew will be inspired to do good for its own sake, and to serve the people with the humility and dedication that he practiced.”
More than 20 years ago, Levin gifted an endowed professorship at UWF in honor of his father, Abe Levin, which is now worth more than $400,000. With the establishment of the Institute, this professorship will be directly associated with the Institute and will be dedicated to arranging visiting scientists, writers and creatives to enhance intellectual capital. The endowed professorship, his recent gift of $100,000 to support UWF Football and the $550,000 contribution to establish the Askew Institute total more than $1 million in giving.
Levin is one of the most successful trial attorneys in the country. He has received more than 25 jury verdicts in excess of $1 million, six of which were in excess of $10 million. He is best known for rewriting Florida’s Medicaid Third-Party Recovery Act to allow the state of Florida to recover billions of dollars from the tobacco industry for smoking-related illnesses. He is a member of the Inner Circle of Advocates, an organization limited to 100 members throughout the country, and he has been listed in every edition of the publication, “Best Lawyers in America.”
Among his accomplishments, Levin was named The Trial Lawyer of the Year by the National Trial Lawyers for 2015. He was also inducted into the Trial Lawyers Hall of Fame in 2009, which is located at Temple Law School in Philadelphia. Other honors include receiving the Perry Nichols Award in 1994, which is the highest honor bestowed by the Florida Justice Association and is given in recognition for a person’s lifetime achievements in the pursuit of justice.
Levin’s tremendous professional success has enabled him to donate generously in support of higher education. In 1999, he donated $10 million to the University of Florida for the renaming of the Fredric G. Levin College of Law.

Achieve High-End Results

Our team works side by side with clients to ensure their ideas become reality. We help with all aspects of the building process, from generating design concepts, to representing your goals to contractors. We encourage our clients to allow us to work closely with General Contractors to determine overall cost estimates for materials, labor, and services rendered by all parties. Their feedback helps produce a project budget, which is vital in determining an accurate scope of work.

Your budget is continually referenced as a critical tool as the project proceeds. Our team maintains regular communication with clients and contractors to ensure the budgeted parameters are followed, both financially and on time.

Kolleen Edwards Chesley has 25 years of experience in the financial services industry and spent the majority of her career as a financial advisor. In that role, Kolleen was responsible for finding her own clients and quickly learned the value of networking, networking, and even more networking. It was in 2004 and during her sales career that she, along with two other professional business women met for lunch with the purpose of helping to motivate each other after Hurricane Ivan had blown through our area and changed not only the physical landscape of the area, but also impacted the business landscape as well. Out of that lunch was born what is now a thriving not-for-profit organization for business women.

Kolleen currently serves full-time as the Founding Director of what was originally called Women’s Business Lunch and is now known as Powerful Women of the Gulf Coast. The organization advocates a culture of confidence building, lifelong learning, collaboration, empowering others and a spirit of charitable giving. The mission of Powerful Women of the Gulf Coast is to promote, advance and improve women in business and the organization accomplishes these in a number of different ways.

–             Monthly networking meetings in Pensacola and Gulf Breeze. These are open to all women and free to attend. We run a structured meeting with open networking, an educational segment, a sponsor presentation, an opportunity to hear about the businesses of all attendees, and a whole lot of fun. We frequently hear from attendees that these meeting are chock full of value and a great way to build new relationships to help support their businesses.

–             Powerful Women of the Gulf Coast Magazine. We are in our third year of production of the magazine and our goal is for this to be a quarterly publication. Each edition features interviewees of local successful leaders in business who share their honest thoughts on leadership, success, obstacles, and inspiration as it relates to women in business. We also include other articles on leadership, networking, and other skill development. It is geared for anyone in business or looking for business motivation and tips.

–             Annual Pursue Your Passion Women’s conference. To help celebrate National Business Women’s Week, we hold a full day conference during the third week of October along with several other events leading up to the conference. We feature a national keynote speaker, several local successful leaders in business, along with Speed Networking, an Experience Hall, structured and unstructured networking exercises and plenty of laughter, relationship building and excitement. Our attendees are not only motivated by the conference but they leave with tangible tips they can take back and implement in their businesses to lead them to success.

–             Power Up Challenge is a 12 week educational series where we hold classes once a week for an hour and a half focused around four main areas of business: Networking, Marketing, Business Efficiency, and Sales Skills. Open to men and women and all classmates (whether they attend in person or not) receive the full audio recording of each class along with class notes, expanded notes, and extra resources. Classes are affordable and attendees are elated with the amount and quality of the information that is shared.

–             Women in Leadership radio podcast show – sponsored by Pensacola Business Radio X. We hold shows twice a month and bring in mostly women but some men for in-depth interviews. Interviewees share their advice on topics such as mentoring, keys to success, time management tools, personal mantras and favorite inspirations, and what men can do to help support women in business.

Membership in Powerful Women of the Gulf Coast is also available. Contact kolleen@powerfulwomengulfcoast.com for more information or visit our website at powerfulwomengulfcoast.com or Facebook at Powerful Women of the Gulf Coast.

Pensacola Business Radio: Spotlight Episode: Erik Hansen, Hansen Real Estate Team and Golfing for a Cause

I am a true Pensacola native, and have lived only one other place in my entire life. In 2001, my wife (Angie) and I moved to Orlando to start college and life as a married couple. I jumped into real estate while I was still in college at the University of Central Florida in Orlando back in 2003. After a year learning the real estate business and finishing up at UCF, I joined up with Keller Williams Realty in East Orlando and began really building my business. I partnered up with a Team Leader which catapulted me to the top in a very short time period. In the summer of 2013, after being back in Pensacola since 2009, I jumped back into real estate. In January 2016, I rejoined Keller Williams Realty with my entire team. Since that summer of 2013, I have built a successful real estate team that consistently produces in the TOP 10 of real estate teams in Pensacola. We currently have a Buyer Team Manager (Brent Scott), Buyer Specialist (Renee Decker, Stephanie Oliver, Jordan Simmons), a full time Transaction Coordinator (Bethany Christian), Listing Team Manager (Angie Hansen), Listing/Marketing Assistant (Mikayla Holmes), and an Inside Sales Agent (Courtney Zamudio). The team approach gives a level of service unmatched by the average single agent. Our staff and Buyer Specialists have the skills and experience to handle all your real estate needs! In 2016, our team closed 120 transactions and are on track for 180 transactions in 2017.

Looking to purchase your first home or downsizing into a smaller home? We can help. Thinking about investing in real estate to build wealth and a retirement? We have the plan for you. Seeking an experienced team to sell your home using a proven marketing approach? We offer a full service listing and marketing plan to get your home sold quickly, with the fewest problems and for the highest possible price. Selling real estate is a science and we have the system in place to get you the most money for your home!

In addition to being passionate about real estate, I love giving back to my community, traveling with the family to explore new destinations, watching football with friends in the fall, relaxing on Pensacola Beach in the summer, and occasionally playing (attempting to play) golf! My wife, son Peyton and I attend Cokesbury United Methodist Church here in Pensacola. I am the current Golf Tournament Committee Chariman and we recently raised over $10,000 for three local charities. My wife, Angie, is on the Board at Cokesbury Children’s Center, where our son attends pre-school. I am also a member of the Northeast Pensacola Sertoma Club, which raises over $50,000 for local charities every year at events such as HogFest in the Spring and Dragon Boat Festival in the summer. We have a ton of fun giving back to our community and want to teach our son the importance of faith, family and community involvement.

Contact The Hansen Team today to learn more about how we can best serve your Pensacola area real estate needs! (850) 377-2201 or send email to ContactHansenTeam@gmail.com. Why can’t I achieve my goals?
Why do I progress for short periods of time and then revert to my previous behaviors?
How can I meet and exceed my goals and make lasting, permanent, and positive changes in my life?

Angel started working for Mr. Gonzales in the back of the store doing inventory. Within a few days, he was promoted to sales selling high end men’s apparel and quickly became a top salesman. Angel has had an extensive career in sales and has helped numerous companies achieve record breaking years. He also served 22 years in the Navy and retired as Navy Chief. Recently, he played a key role in launching a new company in the medical equipment field with former NBA star Jonathan Bender. He also achieved the top sales position with one of the largest companies in the world, which exceeds over 18 billion dollars annually and employs nearly 60,000 people.

Today, Angel Pomales has been mentoring under some of the top industry leaders and entrepreneurs in the country and is currently an executive leader in a company that is projected to hit over $800 million this year and has earned over $7 billion since its inception in 1992.

He now not only has financial freedom, but is learning to have time freedom and devotes his life to helping others gain the tools and opportunity necessary to gain financial independence. Angel is dedicated to several charities, which find real solutions to monumental problems that interfere with daily, worldwide issues. Out of all of his achievements, his biggest success is being a man of faith and being a loving husband to his wife Maribel, and a proud father to his children Alexander and Nathalie.

Cyber Self Defense workshops every 3 months, and the next one is Feb 3 ( http://www.theneteffect.com/courses/ ).  These workshops are open to the public and designed for non-technical people to learn basic security practices, and of course I’d like to plug it on the show. You can ask me questions about any of the topics in the workshop.  Also, my workshops meet the requirements for the “New Technology Requirement” the Florida Bar is now requiring of its members.  You can read about this at http://www.floridabar.org/tfb/TFBMember.nsf/ED6E4BCB92A8FE1B852567090069F3C2/EF275B8B68D1C99F85256B2F006CA497?OpenDocument and I expect more bar associations (and other professional orgs) to follow suit.
