Pensacola Business Radio: USO and Campfire-2 Great Organizations Doing Good in Pensacola

20161122_101036

Tammy Byrer from Camp Fire Gulf Wind Council and Beej Davis from USO

Founded to Help Youth Thrive

For over 100 years Camp Fire has actively engaged youth and teens in building essential skills for life.

Luther Gulick, M.D., and his wife, Charlotte Gulick

Our heritage of cultivating community building, supporting academic readiness, and embracing diversity sets us apart.

Camp Fire was founded in 1910 by Luther Gulick, M.D., and his wife, Charlotte Gulick. They created Camp Fire “to guide young people on their journey to self-discovery.” The Gulicks felt strongly that the experiences young people have early in life teach them to care for themselves, their environment, and the people around them for a lifetime.

Camp Fire has been a leader and innovator in youth development from the very beginning. We’re proud to have led the way on some important issues.

Camp Fire was America’s first nonsectarian and multicultural organization for girls.

In 1975, Camp Fire became a coeducational organization. Boys and girls learn to play and work alongside each other and appreciate their similarities and differences in positive ways. Today, our programs serve roughly equal numbers of boys and girls.

In 1988, Camp Fire formalized its longstanding focus on teen service and leadership. Teens in Action was created to seize the energy and ideas of teens to tackle real issues in their communities. Nationwide, teens participate annually in community service projects that develop their skills and make real differences in their communities.

In 1993, Camp Fire added sexual orientation to its Inclusion Policy.

In 1997, Camp Fire introduced Absolutely Incredible Kid Day®—a national initiative that has touched millions of youth. Each year, adults and older teens write letters to youth, celebrating each child’s unique talents and pledging their encouragement and support. Absolutely Incredible Kid Day takes place annually on the third Thursday of March.

In 2010, Camp Fire celebrated its 100th birthday. Camp Fire participants across the country all lit campfires at the same time to honor the legacy of our organization. Camp Fire continues to celebrate its birthday on March 17th every year.

In 2012, Camp Fire became the first national youth development organization in the United States to implement the Thriving framework developed by the Thrive Foundation for Youth.

Mission

Saving Lives…. Reducing  Crime…..Building Futures

Pathways For Change is committed to our clients and our community. Human transformation is our business; Pathways for Change saves people from the destructive lifestyle too often perpetuated by poverty, abuse of alcohol and other drugs, and lack of education.

Pathways For Change reduces crime on many fronts. We reduce recidivism at a rate of 70 percent, meaning the vast majority of our clients do not go out and commit new crimes. We help young people and families know that they have a future as law-abiding citizens. They do not need to hang with the gang, give up hope or dreams, or settle for a life that is not what God has intended for them.

Pathways For Change builds futures for children by providing a summer camp and an after-school program for middle-school boys and girls. We build futures for families by showing them how to live free of drugs and crime. We build futures of the elderly residents who live right next door to the Family Center; they now have meaningful work to do — volunteering as tutors, mentors, instructors, childcare sitters, librarians, office coordinators. We are reviving a neighborhood, called “homeless town,” working with each other to save lives, increase safety and build futures.

Vision

Pathways For Change offers a comprehensive, caring vision. We assess each individual who comes to PFC for help and we offer assistance in whatever areas are needed. all the lacking areas. If we build lives, one at a time, and do it well, we will save a neighborhood and then a community. We depend greatly on our partners and volunteers; that bond allows those individuals to accomplish their own missions. We all benefit.

We believe that the only way to true healing is through the love of God and a daily relationship with Him.

We envision healthy activities, such as a community vegetable garden, with area residents growing and selling their produce. We plan daily exercise classes for children, adults and senior citizens. We see a future that is healthy, ripe with opportunities.

Core Values

• Faith – We believe it is not about us, it is about God’s Leadership.
• Commitment – We show love and compassion for each other and those we serve, as we make a difference in our community.
• Communication – We practice daily, the vital sharing and understanding of information in a safe, nurturing environment.
• Integrity – We deliver transparency in our organization, earning trust and respect.
• Hope – We believe that every life is a life worth saving.
• Stewardship –  We make wise and responsible decisions regarding all that we have been given.
• Excellence – We deliver excellence through personal responsibility, accountability and  continuous improvement.

Pensacola Business Radio: Spotlight – Guests: Jenny Clark with Solvability

JENNY W CLARK: Solvability, i4GovCon Community and Summit, DCAA Compliant QuickBooks Boot Camp, Florida GovCon Podcast

As a small business owner in federal contracting, you need to focus on business development, recruitment, program execution and proposals, not worrying about your financial reporting and accounting. Dealing with billings, payroll and expense reporting takes up more of your time than it should. You don’t get your financial statements on time, the numbers keep bouncing around, and your banker keeps asking questions. You need to set up budgets and you need an indirect rate model for running “what-if” scenarios. How do you get your accounting processes streamlined, so you can get back to the real work?

Your options are:
Do It Yourself: Keep searching for answers online or relying on friends for templates.

Done for You: Get an outside group to “re-do” your system, and rely on them to take care of you.

DONE WITH YOU: Review the reporting you have and tweak it so your reports are more accurate and more current. Create a plan that builds on your current systems, shows you how to get more out of it, and focuses on best practices for federal contract accounting. Join live sessions and online courses as a member of a mastermind group, with access to advanced sessions specifically designed for small businesses in federal contracting.

For federal contractors, your accounting system shouldn’t be holding you back, but it will if you can’t pass DCAA audits or prove to a prime that you understand FAR 31 and follow CAS (even though you’re exempt as a small business.)

If you are ready to learn about a fresh approach to getting your accounting system on track – let’s talk. We offer training and support for small businesses in federal contracting including government contract accounting workshops, webinars, boot camps and conferences.

E-mail me at …jwclark@solvability.com…or call me right now at **256-882-6276** to get started.
