 About Shannon Addison

Shannon Addison is a “work-at-home” mom, military spouse, and mother of two amazing girls. Her mother (who was a teacher for 25 years) inspired her to create a product line that would positively impact the lives of children.

Her mom believed that everyone is given a voice to use for whatever purpose each person intends to pursue. The challenge, she said, was finding a way to use your voice for good. For Shannon, this is her voice.

Raising girls has provided a lot of insight about what lessons are important during the most critical growth years. Today there are a lot of products on the market that promote self-esteem, but not many that really target self-acceptance.

The founder of our company is Mike Hodges. Mike is a Thinking Into Results (TIR) consultant, who is affiliated with the Proctor Gallagher Institute (PGI). The TIR program has helped him combine his experience in contract administration, employee training, sales, and business administration with his passion for personal growth and development.

Mike uses the same tools used by Bob Proctor, an industry leader in personal development. These techniques assist clients with improving their performance in all aspects of life. He customizes his program to fit each client’s unique needs, so they can achieve the results they desire. Individuals will also be able to answer several key questions, such as

Why can’t I achieve my goals?
Why do I progress for short periods of time and then revert to my previous behaviors?
How can I meet and exceed my goals and make lasting, permanent, and positive changes in my life?

Past Careers

Mike holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Frostburg State University and a Master’s degree in Management from Florida State University.  He has spent most of his professional career in the insurance sector in both the government and private sector. Mike has worked as a federal government contract specialist and program analyst, an agent for a private health and life insurance agency, and an office manager for an independent medical practice.

PGI was formed by Bob Proctor, a legendary leader in the personal development industry for over 50 years. Bob Proctor started PGI with his former student, Sandy Gallagher. PGI’s mission is to share the secrets of personal and business growth and development that Bob has showcased during his remarkable career. Mike is proud to be affiliated with PGI as a certified Thinking Into Results (TIR) consultant.

Our CEO and Founding Bettie, Emily LaRusch has felt the entrepreneurial bug since she was a child. She got her start in elementary school when she directed the neighborhood kids in a talent show and charged parents admission to watch their kids perform. As an adult she worked for fortune 500 companies and loved sharing ideas and executing process improvements and product development as an intrapreneur.

While working on a IT project in the finance sector she spent most of her days on project calls but needed to arrange services of a carpet cleaner and landscaper for her home. On a rare break, she called multiple companies and no one answered. She called company after company until she was able to book services. One company called her back later and they said “Hey, I have a missed call from you. Do you want carpet cleaning?” Initially she was annoyed by the impersonal and unprofessional experience but after a few days a light bulb went off. This was the perfect opportunity to marry her passion for service, love of small businesses and knack for IT to become the voice of small businesses across the US and Canada! In October 2013, she put the idea onto paper as she formed a business plan and the rest is history.

The University of West Florida recently honored more than 250 students at the 28th annual Student Leadership Awards Banquet, hosted by the Division of Student Affairs. Students were recognized for various achievements, including completing thousands of hours of community service, managing millions of dollars in funding and embracing leadership roles that benefit campus life.
The ceremony and dinner, held April 10 in the UWF Conference Center and Ballroom, featured alumnus and Pensacola City Council President Charles Bare as the keynote guest speaker. The division presented 14 awards, recognizing students for their leadership on campus, in the community and beyond. For a complete list of awards and recipients, see below.
Deborah L. Ford Emerging Leader Award
Dr. Rebecca Kennedy, assistant vice president of student affairs and director of UWF Counseling and Psychological Services, awarded sophomore Kishane Patel with the Deborah L. Ford Emerging Leader Award. Named for a former vice president for student affairs, the award is presented annually to a freshman or sophomore who demonstrates a genuine commitment to the University, specifically in the area of student life.
Patel serves as chief of staff for the Student Government Association’s president’s cabinet and as sponsorship chair for the Campus Activity Board. He also is an active member of UWF MEN. In 2016-17, Patel will serve as SGA Vice President.
Outstanding Student Leaders
Zimmern recognized junior Brandon Robinson with the Outstanding Student Leader Award, given to a junior or senior who demonstrates a collegiate record of leadership and service to the University and campus life.
Robinson serves as Senate president for the Student Government Association; president, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity; public relations chair, African American Student Association; and involvement navigator, Student Involvement.
Collectively, students in these organizations recorded more than 7,500 hours of community service in 2015. Six groups received the Bronze Award for 200-499 hours of service; five received the Silver Award for 500-999 hours; and two received the Gold Award for more than 1,000 hours. These organizations included eight chapters of the University’s Fraternity & Sorority Life community, the Kugelman Honors Program, and four academic- or interest-based student organizations. Students who completed 20 hours of service or more were recognized individually for their contributions.

Awards for Sustained Leadership and Service
The Awards for Sustained Leadership and Service, named for two long-serving leaders in the University’s Division of Student Affairs, Linda O. Dye and Kenneth L. Curtis, recognize two seniors for their significant contributions, sustained leadership and service to campus life. Each award includes a $500 scholarship.
Michael Krueger received the Kenneth L. Curtis Award.
Krueger was acknowledged for his involvement with the Campus Activity Board, UWF MEN and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He also interned with the Greater Pensacola Chamber of Commerce and the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

In July 2015, UWF announced the formation of the Center for Entrepreneurship through a $1 million gift commitment from Quint and Rishy Studer. Thanks to the Studers’ generosity, the Center will encourage and support educational initiatives related to entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial thinking while serving as a comprehensive resource for economic innovation for students, industry and community partners.

Duke’s experience in entrepreneurship and economic development includes 25 years at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he worked from 1984 to 2009. He served in a variety of roles in economic development at Georgia Tech, culminating as General Manager for Business Development at the Enterprise Innovation Institute. He also spent four years as Director of the Economic Development Institute, which was named the “best university-based economic development organization in the country” by Innovation Associates in 2005.

Duke then transitioned to the University of Southern Mississippi where he was hired in 2010 to lead the startup of the Trent Lott National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship, a university-based community engagement enterprise. His most recent position was Director for Economic Development and Executive Director for Insight Park at the University of Mississippi. In that role, Duke established a framework for the technology incubator and research park marketing plan and engaged the university community to identify knowledge assets suited for both economic development and university-industry partnerships.

Mission

The University of West Florida Center for Entrepreneurship is dedicated to seeding economic growth. The Center encourages and supports educational initiatives related to entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial thinking and serves as a comprehensive resource for economic innovation for students, faculty, industry and community partners. The Center for Entrepreneurship seeks to support the complete life cycle of an entrepreneur.

The Center is housed in the College of Business and hosts numerous activities and initiatives related to creating a culture of entrepreneurial thinking. Additionally, affiliate units and organizations create a synergistic support for entrepreneurial efforts and innovation. Quint Studer serves as the Entrepreneur-in-Residence to mobilize a professional network of entrepreneurs that positively impact the Center through contributions to advisement, seminars, classes, workshops and a host of other initiatives.

The UWF College of Business is actively developing degree and certificate programs in entrepreneurship. The College of Business recently launched the MBA program with an emphasis on entrepreneurship and the College provides an undergraduate certificate in small business management/entrepreneurship and a graduate certificate in entrepreneurship.

Dr. Karen Rasmussen is the Chief Academic Strategist of the Innovation Institute and Assistant Provost at the University of West Florida. She leads initiatives related to distance learning, academic policy and infrastructure. Dr. Rasmussen leads MyCareerShines, the state of Florida career and readiness tool. As part of the Complete Florida initiative, Dr. Rasmussen works with academic affairs colleagues across the State of Florida to build systems for program completion and data integration. She has worked on the implementation of mobile learning program delivery in the areas of Performance Technology and Technology Systems Support. Dr. Rasmussen holds the rank of professor, teaching courses in Instructional Systems, Curriculum, Performance Technology, and Instructional Technology. After graduating from UAB School of Medicine and completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sacred Heart Hospital, Pensacola Florida and Tulane Charity Hospital, New Orleans, Louisiana. In the years after residency, Dr. Bush turned her focus to establishing a private practice. Within five years, she became the managing partner and guided her group into a 10 provider group with nearly 50 employees.  During this time she maintained an adjunct faculty appointment teaching resident physicians.  In 2002, D. Bush was approached to return, part time, to academic medicine to help start a new medical school at Florida State University with a regional campus in Pensacola.  That role soon expanded to teaching the resident physicians with her duties as the Clerkship Director for OB/GYN for the undergraduate medical education in the panhandle of Florida. Dr. Bush has recently retired from private practice and is focused on academic medicine adding the role of Educational Director in Obstetrics and Gynecology for the six FSU campuses.  Along the way there have been many awards and recognitions for teaching and leadership both regional and national. Her current focus is teaching adult learners clinical reasoning skills and meaningful feedback techniques. Both interests have been nationally recognized in faculty development seminars. Although teaching general obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Bush has additional certification in Menopause Medicine. She became a North American Menopause Society Certified Menopause Practitioner (NCMP) in 2006, and loves to educate anyone who will listen on the topic of health issues in women of midlife and beyond.

A little about me and my family: I am a true Pensacola native, and have lived only one other place in my entire life. The Blue Angels Rock N Fly Half Marathon and 5K will begin at 8 a.m. Both races start and finish in the heart of NAS Pensacola on Radford and Fred Bauer (at the Starbuck sign). The half marathon course takes you through and around various landmarks such as the glorious Barrancas National Cemetery, the National Naval Aviation Museum, Pensacola Light House, Sherman Cove, and great waterfront views of Pensacola Bay and the entry to the Gulf of Mexico. It may be too much for some but for a Rock N Fly runner could it get any better?

Every participant in the half marathon or 5K will receive a t-shirt and poster! In addition, half marathon athletes will take home a finishers medal. Start training today for this event. The Rock N Fly Hippie tour will surely sell out in 2016.

For participants just wanting to show off hippie or rocker gear we are ready to see what you got. Just remember these awards only go three deep for the best hippie and rocker costume awards. In addition, we will have the hula championship for the longest individual to hula hoop. After the race, stick around for our huge post-race party!!!
