Career Academies-Learn More Here

The School District of Escambia County’s career academies are small learning communities within middle or high schools that focus on a career pathway for a two-, three-, or four-year span. Students enter through a voluntary application process; they must apply and be accepted, with parental knowledge and support. Students in a career academy take a mixture of career (usually one or two) and academic (usually three or four) classes each year. Classes meet entrance requirements for four- year universities. Students develop knowledge in a given industry, and—in most academies—students have opportunities to earn industry certification relevant to the career academy. Students’ senior year may include work experience, paid or unpaid, in the community.

Please contact us for more information about our career academy opportunities.

Pensacola Business Radio: Spotlight Episode Terry Bussel-Grip No Slip

20161201_145858

Terry Bussell

I’m a father of 2 beautiful daughters, proud Air Force Veteran, and ambitious entrepreneur.

I’ve been self-employed for the last 10 years. My hobby is bowling, and I was a professional bowler for awhile. I love helping people!

Services

Grip No Slip offers you a simple and inexpensive method for treating ALL slippery surfaces, reducing the likelihood of slip-and-fall accidents.

Our revolutionary and inexpensive products add friction to slippery surfaces like floors and bathtubs, making them virtually slip-proof. You will have just as much traction on a wet floor as you do a dry floor. We offer a safe solution that works at the micro-pore level to improve traction, making your slippery surface safer without residue.

As a SlipDoctors Solution Provider, we have the backing and expertise of the Leaders in Floor Safety. Companies need to be proactive not reactive when it comes to floor safety. No company wants customers or employees slipping and falling on their floors as this can lead to increased insurance premiums and costs to defend lawsuits.

Contact us today for a free evaluation of your floor, bathtub, or any other slippery surface.

Our Services Include:

Flooring

In most cases we use a proprietary system to chemically treat the floor on a microscopic level that won’t change the appearance of the floor in any way.  For those that we can’t chemically treat (approx. 15%), we have specialized coatings that can go on clear or be colored to your liking.

Tubs and Showers

We use a proprietary system to chemically treat bathroom tile and porcelain tubs.  We use a proprietary clear rolled on coating to increase the static coefficient of friction on fiberglass tubs. Our products are feet and bottom friendly and can be cleaned with no ill effects.

Pool/Spa Decks

We have options for all surfaces to make these often wet surfaces less slippery. Whether jumping in or getting out, our solutions will reduce the chances of slipping on the way.

Sidewalks

We offer a variety of options to enhance the traction on any sidewalk!

SCOF Testing

We can test your surface to determine the Static Coefficient of Friction on your floors using an ASM-825A Digital Slip Meter.  For more on Slip Meters, go to http://www.americanslipmeter.com/home.html

About Us

The mission of Grip No Slip, LLC is to provide honest, reliable service that stands head and shoulders above the rest.

We offer the widest range of traction improvement products which help prevent slip-fall accidents in your entryway, kitchen, bathtub, shower, or any other slippery surface. We specialize in keeping your surfaces SAFE. We use only state-of-the-art equipment and products. We provide effective and safe solutions for your home or business. You will live and work worry-free from slip and fall accidents. STOP ACCIDENTS BEFORE THEY HAPPEN!

Pensacola Business Radio–UWF Cyber Security Competition and Center for Cyber Security

20161129_100119

John Barlow-Winner

Eman El Sheikh, Ph.D.  Director Center for Cyber Security

Anthony Pinto-UWF

UWF Cyber Club places first in statewide Cyber Defense Challenge
Pensacola, Fla. – Nov. 14, 2016 – The University of West Florida Cyber Club recently placed first in the Cyber Defense Challenge at the Florida Center for Cybersecurity’s third annual conference, held in Tampa.
This was the first year that the annual competition included a cybersecurity competition, which features several live cyber challenges for various teams. The UWF team competed in the invite-only Cyber Defense Challenge, where they were tasked with defending their networks against pre-programmed cyber traffic and attack scenarios. They faced teams from top Florida universities, including the University of Florida, the University of South Florida and the University of Central Florida. A non-collegiate team placed second and the University of Florida placed third.
“The UWF Cyber Club students are very dedicated,” said Anthony Pinto, lecturer in the UWF computer science department and faculty advisor for the Cyber Club. “They practice several times each week, on their own time, and they’re interested in learning as much as possible about the field. More than that, they worked well together, organizing the team tasks to get the most out of their talents and time.”
John Barlow, senior cybersecurity major and president of the UWF Cyber Club, said it was an invaluable opportunity to practice what he’s learned in the classroom in a hands-on, real-world scenario.
“Taking part in competitions forces me to adapt to an unfamiliar environment, apply what I know, learn from those who may know more, and still have fun in the process,” he said. “The Cyber Defense Challenge helped me gain a deeper understanding of cybersecurity, and now I can share what I’ve learned with my fellow students. As a result, the cybersecurity program at UWF will continue to grow and flourish, with new ideas and processes being exchanged between current and future members.”
The conference featured keynote presentations from Industry leaders Scott Charney, vice president of Microsoft’s Trustworthy Computing Group, and Art Coviello, retired executive chairman of RSA, the Security Division of EMC. Participants also attended sessions focused on cybersecurity workforce development, research, current trends and more, as well as exhibitor displays, panel discussions, networking opportunities and live demonstrations.
“The Cyber Defense Challenge provided our students with the experience of applying the knowledge gained from their education to a real world situation,” Pinto said. “Networking with industry professionals and other university students was also an invaluable opportunity.”
The UWF Center for Cybersecurity enhances student success through scholarships, professional development opportunities and support for the Cyber Club.  The Center for Cybersecurity is the regional hub for cybersecurity education and research, including multidisciplinary programs and certificates, research opportunities, outreach activities, and industry partnerships.
Created during the 2014 legislative session, the Florida Center for Cybersecurity is a shared resource for cybersecurity research, education and outreach across the state and beyond. The Center fosters collaboration between higher education, government, defense and business communities to share knowledge, resources and training opportunities that help mitigate cybersecurity threats and create opportunities for innovative solutions. Located at the University of South Florida, FC2 is leading efforts to position Florida as a national leader in cybersecurity.
